Hampshire has numerous artisan producers across the county ranging from high welfare meat, cheese, fresh vegetables and drink. We are members of the Hampshire Fare organisation which champions the wonderful producers we have on our doorstep.
In the Meon Valley and area surrounding Wallops Wood, there are several drinks producers which are well worth seeking out and trying for yourself.
Beer & Cider
Bowman Ales – this microbrewery is based on Wallops Wood estate and produces some really tasty ales. We have to mention the aptly named ‘Wallops Wood’ of course, and you will find a bottle of this in your welcome pack! Unfortunately there are no tours of the brewery at the moment but you can pre-order their ales and arrange for collection while you’re staying with us. Find out more on their website.
Southwick Brewhouse – Just a short distance from Wallops Wood is the pretty village of Southwick, which is steeped in history. It’s well worth a trip to the village and you can stop off at The Golden Lion pub while you’re there. Next to the pub is Southwick Brewhouse, an excellent beer shop, which used to be a brewery and still has the old steam engine which you may be lucky enough to find running. There’s a huge selection of bottled ales on offer along with their own brewery, Suthwyk Ales which you can buy from the cask. You can find out more on their website.
Meon Valley Cider is a craft cider maker based in West Meon. They produce 6 different ciders which can be purchased in a number shops local to Wallops Wood including the Meonstoke Village Store, just a 5 minute drive from us. Find out more on their website.
There are three wine producers close to Wallops Wood, which have their own vineyards and produce some amazing English wines.
Hambledon Vineyard – Hambledon have created some award winning sparkling wines all produced at the vineyard. You can book a tour or afternoon tea but will need to check details online first. Alternatively you can visit their shop to purchase some wine and treat yourself while you’re staying with us! Find out more on their website.
Exton Park Vineyard is another vineyard very close to Wallops Wood producing a range of sparkling wines. They aren’t currently offering experiences, but you can get in touch and purchase some wines.
Wyches Vineyard is in Swanmore, just a short drive from Wallops Wood and makes three still wines (a red, a white and a rosé), along with a sparkling wine. You can contact them to buy their wines, but if you would like to taste the wines, you will need to get in touch first.
With many artisan gin producers starting up over the last few years, we are quite spoilt for choice in the area. There are some amazing gin and spirits producers to visit for tastings and tours.
The Portsmouth Distillery – based in an old fort in Southsea, this is quite a new distillery producing gins, rums, a cider and an apple brandy. Their distillery tours are now running again and should make for an interesting afternoon out! Find out more and to book a tour, please visit their website.
Bombay Sapphire – this widely known brand of gin is based near Whitchurch, between Winchester & Basingstoke. They are open for tours, tastings and a gin cocktail masterclass, a great experience if you’re a gin lover! Find out more and visit their website.
Winchester Distillery is based in the village of Old Alresford, not far from Wallops Wood. They produce a range of gins, although unfortunately tours are not currently running due to Covid restrictions. Do contact them for further information about purchasing their gin.
The River Test Distillery is another relatively new distillery based in Longparish, north of Winchester towards Andover. They produce two gins which look well worth seeking out. Find out more about them on their website.

Hill Farm Juice are a local apple juice producer, creating some amazing juice! You will find a bottle of their juice in your welcome pack, and it can be purchased quite easily locally to Wallops Wood including the Meonstoke Village Store, Meringtons Garage in Droxford and The Bakers Arms, all within 5 minutes’ drive from us.
Dampney’s Remarkable Drinks have created a range of handcrafted English liqueurs, which include a raspberry gin, a rhubarb vodka and a redcurrant rum, amongst many others. They are based in East Meon and you can arrange to collect an order direct from them or buy them at local stores which include the Meonstoke Village Stores.
Meon Valley Milk is a local dairy farm in Southwick which is stocked at Westlands Farm Shop just near Wickham. You can purchase their milk from the vending machine at the farm shop.
