How Accessibility is Built into our Holiday Accommodation

All of our holiday accommodation is accessible and built to a high standard. When we initially started to build the cottages, we took great care to adhere to the Visit England NAS Scheme and their building specifications. We are inspected by Visit England every year and take great pride in being able to offer accommodation that is accessible and inclusive to everyone, whatever their age or ability.

Although some of our accommodation has more accessible features than others, they are all suitable for guests who may need some extra help during their stay. For further information about the accessible features in each of our cottages, and which one may be suitable for your needs, please view our Accessibility page.

Accessible Features

There are many built in accessible features in our accommodation which include:

  • Ground floor living for almost all our accommodation. Scots Pine and Sicilian Lemon in Grenville, the only exceptions, are built on two floors but include two downstairs bedrooms for guests who prefer to remain on one floor.
  • All of the accommodation has non-slip surfaces in the kitchens and bathrooms, and the rest of the interiors have wooden oak flooring (apart from Skeldale, which is carpeted). The exterior patio areas are paved for better accessibility, particularly so for wheelchair users.
  • Except in Skeldale there are en-suite shower rooms in all the cottages, with wetrooms in the more accessible properties, making it easier for guests to bathe. All bedrooms have zip and link beds, so can be made as a twin or double, ideal if guests need to bring a carer. Skeldale does not have en-suite rooms and has two bedrooms which are a permanent twin and a permanent double.
  • Other features include touch activated bedside lamps, height adjustable basins, alarm pull cord in the bathroom, height adjustable cooking facilities and lower worktops to accommodate a wheelchair. These are not included in all cottages, but you can view which cottages have more accessible features along with further information on our Accessibility page
  • Outside the accommodation there are two disabled parking spaces, and our swimming pool has a hoist with choice of sling- or moulded seat to allow guests with mobility issues to use the pool and jacuzzi.

Additional Accessible Equipment

We have a comprehensive list of additional equipment available to borrow which we can leave ready for you to use on arrival. You can download the list here. If any items are required, we need advance notice and the items are available on a first come, first served basis.

If more specialist equipment is needed, then Solent Mobility, based locally, may be able to help you. Please get in touch with them to discuss your needs before you arrive and they will ensure the items are delivered to your cottage ready for your use on arrival.

If you have any other specific needs or requests, please get in touch and we will do our best to help or point you in the right direction!

There are also plenty of places you can visit during your stay at Wallops Wood as well as accessible walks and pubs.
