Spring is in the air and with it some new events and things to do in the area. Hopefully with some much needed improving weather, we can all spend a bit more time outdoors.

Below is a pick of what’s on whether you’re coming for a mid-week break or for a weekend getaway.

Flying Scotsman Visits the Watercress Line
Excitement is building at the Watercress Line as it gears up to welcome the record-breaking Flying Scotsman, the most famous steam locomotive in the world for the first time. Dates for this special event are 29th February, 1st, 7th and 8th March 2020 with additional Flying Scotsman experiences available at other times.

Wine Tasting Evening with Hambledon Vineyard at Chawton House
Chawton House have partnered up with Hambledon Vineyard to offer this unique evening event. Hambledon Vineyard is one of Wallops Wood’s neighbours! Historic Life Weekends: Brewing Through the Ages & Baking Through the Ages
Weald & Downland Living Museum
Two complementary Historic Life Weekends in March will focus on brewing and then baking. There will be brewing demonstrations and displays relating to what would have been considered normal at different eras as well as looking at developments over time. During the baking weekend we will not only be celebrating our new bakehouse, but exploring this staple of our diet from other houses across the Museum.

Jane Austin’s House Museum
A variety of events on at the Museum most weekends, including:
Celebrating Nature
Experience Jane’s – and her characters’ – love of nature and the outdoors in 2020. A first edition of Pride and Prejudice will be on display in the Reading Room, celebrating Lizzie Bennet’s famous walk through muddy fields. The display will also feature a pair of Regency ladies’ walking boots and patterns, which nineteenth century ladies would wear to keep their feet dry.

Step back in time to 1863 and the Round-Britain tour. The Royal Navy wanted to thank British tax payers by inviting them onboard Warrior – a modern day PR stunt if you will.
