What’s On in August

There’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained throughout August and the summer holidays. A pick of what’s on is below, but do check if tickets need to be pre-booked before setting out.

Winchester Science Centre
Children’s science shows until 11 September, include:

Sky Park Farm
This deer park near Petersfield breed and farm deer. You can get close up to the herds of Red and Sika deer, children can enjoy the adventure playground, explore the visitor centre or enjoy a picnic in the grounds.

Marwell Zoo
A popular destination for many of the families that stay here, it’s well worth visiting to see the variety of animals that live there. 
Until 31 August, every day ticket purchased for Marwell Zoo will come with a free return ticket valid for seven days.
Until 04 September: Brickosaurs dinosaur sculptures throughout the zoo. Included with admission ticket.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park
A beautiful place for walking in the South Downs, the Queen Elizabeth Country Park is also hosting the South Downs Show on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August.

Local Festivals

Along with plenty of family events, there are also several festivals being held in the area in August.

Victorious Festival
Set on Southsea’s sea front, the hugely popular Victorious Festival returns again with a fantastic line up of bands and artists. 26th to 28th August.

CarFest South
On top of the fabulous cars on show, the 2022 event will be built around seven festivals in one with evening entertainment including a party arena, DJs at Club CarFest, plus a Kitchen Disco Stage and lots of Stars and surprises. 26th to 28th August.

Petersfield Summer Festival
A festival takes over the town with a local market, classic cars and bikes, children’s entertainment, plus the all important music and food. 27th to 29th August.

Boomtown Fair
Boomtown is a new creative festival with music, performing arts and amazing entertainment. Held at the Matterley Estate near Winchester, it’s likely to be a unique experience you won’t forget! 10th to 14th August.

Wickham Festival
Just 15 minutes from Wallops Wood, Wickham Festival is a 4-day music & arts festival held every August in a beautiful rural location near the village of Wickham in Hampshire. With live music on four stages plus a host of other entertainment, Wickham Festival is rated by many as one of the safest, most relaxed and family-friendly festivals in the UK. 4th to 7th August.

New Forest Fairy Festival
For lovers of all things fairy, this festival in Burley has plenty on offer including theatre, dance and storytelling. 13th to 14th August.

Ashcroft Summer Ale Festival
Ashcroft Arts Centre’s Ale Festival (in Fareham) is back by popular demand – and this year are bringing some of the best beers, ciders, food and live music that the south has to offer! 13th August.

YMCA Family Festival
Held over the August Bank Holiday, the Family Festival at YMCA Fairthorne Manor at Curdridge promises a weekend full of exciting outdoor activities and evenings full of fun. Enjoy quality time in the great outdoors. 26th to 28th August.
