When Wallops Wood Cottages were originally designed, we ensured that they would be inclusive for all regardless of age or ability. As a result almost all of our cottages are suitable for our accessible guests with their families. Many of our accessible guests also have dogs, and since our cottages are all dog friendly, they are welcome to bring their beloved pooch too.
The accessible features of the cottages aren’t obvious so they are comfortable and welcoming to all of our guests, whether coming as a small family or as a larger group for a special celebration.
Accessible Features
The accessible features built in to the cottages include wider doors so wheelchairs can easily be used around the cottages. All the oak floors are flat, with no bumps or thresholds when moving from room to room. In some of the cottages, kitchen facilities are disability friendly with lower worktops and sinks that can easily be accessed. Most cottages have a wet room and basin that can be raised or lowered.
Other accessible features include:
- Paved paths in the individual cottage gardens
- Easy access to the parking area via paved paths
- Two disabled parking spaces
- Dymo embossed labels on the taps
- Smoke alarms flash to alert guests with impaired hearing
- Alarm pull cords in the wet rooms
Our heated swimming pool has a hoist with a choice of two seats to help our accessible guests easily use the pool and jacuzzi. The pool and jacuzzi are also level decked, the water being level with the surrounding poolside. There are 9 gentle steps with a handrail leading in to the swimming pool, offering perfect accessibility for our guests.

Accessible Equipment
In addition to the features we have built into the cottages, guests can also hire additional equipment if needed. This saves guests from having to remember to bring everything and fill the car up unnecessarily!

Wow! What can we say to fully extol these wonderful cottages? We have recently returned from a spectacular holiday at Wallops Wood Cottages. The owners and their staff appear to have thought of everything to help to ensure a relaxing holiday. Our family, comprising of Mom, Dad, daughter and daughter-in-law, one of whom is wheelchair bound, and two dogs could not have asked for more. The whole cottage is fully accessible, only the best quality goods are provided, coffee/sugar/tea/washing tablets and dishwasher tablets/washing-up liquid/shower and hand gel /bin liners are all provided. In the rear courtyard there is a BBQ and table and chairs, and a hot tub. The cottage we stayed in, Woodbrook, did not have a view but alongside the cottages is a large open field in which a section is fenced off and laid out and planted as a garden.
Any additional equipment which may be needed simply has to be requested. We asked for the bed to be raised on elephant feet and for a commode/shower chair. These were provided at no extra cost. The swimming pool has a hoist which can be used with either a sling or a solid chair.
In these unprecedented times (COVID – 19) every possible step has been taken to ensure holidaymakers safety. The property must be vacated by 09:00 hours on the day of departure, and cannot be occupied until 17:00 hours on the day of arrival. This gives the cleaning staff a full day to do a thorough clean and to disinfect the property. Also the swimming pool is allocated (holidaymakers choose an hour during the day) to each party for 45 minutes per day.
The dogs loved it. Beds, bowls, a toy each, and treats were provided. They loved the field to run around in.
The properties are maintained to a very high standard and we cannot thank the cleaning staff, the gardeners, maintenance people, and the owners enough.
