January is Walk Your Dog Month

January is Walk Your Dog Month and we think it makes a great start to the year. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to get out at this time of year, particularly when it’s cold and damp; but when you have a 4-legged pooch, you have no option – they need their walkies every day! It’s also a great way to burn off those Christmas calories, or extra cake you may have been eating in lockdown. 🐶

Dog Friendly Cottages

All the cottages at Wallops Wood are dog friendly, and we love it when our guests bring their dogs with them. Dogs staying with us even get their own welcome basket which includes a toy & dog treats (which you can take home with you), poop bags, temporary holiday dog tag (in case your dog gets lost), dog bed, towel and bowls for use while staying here. 🐕🐩

Many of our accessible guests have dogs and love bringing them with them for a holiday too. In fact, many of our disabled guests have told us that it’s not easy finding dog friendly accessible accommodation.

Amazing Walks from the Doorstep

But the best thing about bringing your dog to Wallops Wood is the amazing walks on the doorstep. We’re in the heart of the South Downs National Park so you’re very spoilt for choice! Starting closer to home we have 7 laminated walks direct from the cottages. This means you can go on a variety of walks without having to take the car. The cards can be taken out in any weather and many of the walks include a stop off at a dog friendly pub for refreshments on the way back!

You can download the walks here.

There are also many more walks to be found on the South Downs National Park website, so if you don’t mind getting in the car, there are many more miles of beautiful countryside you can explore with your four-legged friend.

At the end of the day, however muddy your dog is, we have a warm dog shower outside you can use to wash your dog before bringing him back to the cottage to dry off in front of the lovely warm wood burner. We think we’ve pretty much thought of everything you might need, so not only do you enjoy your stay, but your dog does too!
