Cultural Attractions in Portsmouth

The historic naval city of Portsmouth has a lot to offer beyond the Royal Navy and the seafront. Museums and culture play a big part in what’s on offer to visitors, and there’s a lot to keep the whole family entertained from harbour tours to art galleries.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard – it goes without saying that this is a fascinating day out for the family. As well as visiting the historic ships, there’s Action Stations, Horrible Histories Pirates Exhibition and your ticket also gives you access to the Submarine Museum and the Explosion Museum in Gosport. Portsmouth Harbour Tours – take a tour around Portsmouth Harbour, a large natural harbour covering over 3000 acres. Tours depart from either Gunwharf Quays or Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, taking in the naval dockyard and sights of the harbour. It’s well worth taking the trip which the whole family will enjoy. Spinnaker Tower – an amazing place to visit, it overlooks Portsmouth harbour, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the city centre and the wider area. Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery – free to visit, the museum and gallery offers something for everyone. Take a walk through Portsmouth’s heritage, discover the world of Sherlock Holmes, see fascinating works of art, trace the history of Portsmouth FC. Southsea Castle – if you’re out & about on the sea front in Southsea, or visiting the D-Day Story, then complete your day with a visit to Southsea Castle. Free of charge to visitors, you can explore the keep, enjoy panoramic views from the top of the Keep to the Isle of Wight and Solent.
